Day 12 Atlantic Crossing

We have 1151 to go. That means we made about 160 miles of progress towards our destination. We motored until this morning so only about 12 hours I think. Much less than the 24 to 36 hours of motoring we had forecasted. The forecasts are pretty accurate but not perfect.

Today was a lovely day on the ocean. Gentle broad reach with enough wind to sail with the code zero at 7-10 knots but not enough to be rough. There was more sun breaking through and more sun shine even though we still have some of the cloud coved we’ve experience for most of the passage. We sat out in the sun, played rummy 500 and watched a few Madmen episodes.

For the last several days we’ve noticed a lot of sea weed on the surface of the ocean. I’ve never noticed it before and it’s everywhere. I don’t know if this part of the ocean is warmer than normal but at 82.5 perhaps that’s contributing to a bloom of sorts.

I’ll finish Option B tonight by Sheryl Sandberg and Adam Grant. Great book on Resilience. I didn’t want to read this book because I thought it would be depressing or too much of a self help book. After recommendations from Ryan and Trent I had no choice. Thanks guys. Sheryl’s story and the science behing facing adversity, building resilience and finding joy is a terrific book. Jerri asked me during lunch what I learned from it and I gave her about 20 things that quickly sprung to mind so clearly it had sunk in at a deeper level quickly. This book isn’t just for someone who is dealing with grief although it would be the first book I’d pick up in that situation. It’s about the human condition and how we react to life and how we can do that in a more positive and constructive way along with the science to support that. Thanks for writing this book. I’ve already taken at least one actions that I think is positive.
