Day 18 Atlantic Crossing

We have 225 miles to go and made 175 miles of progress towards our destination today. Forecast still looks very consistant and good for an arrival on early Sat.

Not much action on the high seas except for a large fishing vessel in the middle of the night. It was pretty massive but not sure how big. Probably one of those enormous fish factories on the ocean. The primary issue was that they had a similar heading and speed for a few hours so we were only a few miles away and on a collision course but were not getting any closer. We cracked off as much as we could while keeping the same down wind sail configuration and finally passed them around 2:00AM in GMT -2.

Speaking of time zones. We’ve crossed a few and decided last night to slide into another one by staying up a little later but not switching the clocks. We like routine and rhythms but the clock is the source of record for shifts. We can’t just say that we eat before sunset and Jerri goes to the bunk at dusk and then 5 hours later she gets up. So, tonight we are on GMT-3. This should help us ease into Grenda at GMT-5 and then we will switch all our clocks to the real time. Boulder is GMT -8 for reference.

Two more nights!

Finally almost there! Now I know what it is like to be on the other end of these passage blog posts. Each night while I snuggle into bed for 8 hours I think about you trading off every few hours. hmmm…

You should be almost able to smell the spices on Grenada. A very aromatic place when I was there several decades ago! The grow nutmeg, cinnamon, pimento, cloves, bay leaves, turmeric, ginger, and mace. Enjoy your last couple of nights!

I guess I didn’t realize that you could see comments this time-don’t you usually tell us not to write comments when doing big crossings? Any-hoo, good on you both, what an accomplishment!
What will your first meal be, what have you been craving?
Food, or a Bath? Or, room service in the tub?
Who is the company going to be?
I read your posts every day, want to pick up a few books that Tim has been mentioning.
