Day 6 Atlantic Crossing

We still have about 2017 miles to go but we made good progress over the last 24 hours sailing in 10-20kts of wind at 6-10kts. Had the screecher up about 1/3 of the time and took it down at night when I went off shift and also when the winds were gusting to 25kts. While we traveled over 150km we also changed our route to be farther south from our rumb line (direct route of 1921km) so that we will stay in forecasted good winds. That will likely change a few more times as we get closer to Barbados.

Today was a pretty boring but comfortable trade wind sailing day so we watched 4 episodes of Mad Men and listened to Christmas tunes for about an hour.

The weather continues to heat up with 80.5f water temp and 73f air temperatures.

Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil DeGrasse Tyson was good. I nice concise survey of Astrophysics from what’s known to what we still don’t understand. I don’t get dark matter but have at least a concept of how the universe is expanding and how the galaxies are connected. I love science but I’ll admit I didn’t understand a bunch of it. What’s up with those particles from the sun that are bombarding us everywhere every second?
