One of the great pleasures of a cruising lifestyle is being able to share it with friends. Today’s picture was taken during a good sailing day from Taravai to Mangareva. Greg is at the helm and picked up steering quickly. As you can see, the captain is on a vigilant watch to make sure we don’t hit any unexpected reefs in the Gambier Atoll.
However, every set of visitors leaves at some point so tonight we’re on passage again after a few weeks of play. We left Gambier mid day with the expectation of low winds but a comfortable route to Hoa. We’re sailing at about 6kts with about 10 kts of wind. Looks like this will hold for about 3 days and then maybe turn a little into a beat, but all with light winds. If we had waited for more favorable winds we could have found ourselves in Gambier for another week or longer so we took what mother nature gave us and we’re happily ghosting alone with little wind and a comfortable ride. Very pleasant.
