Jer:
We arrived to Easter, got the anchor set, and went back to bed for a few hours around 5:00 a.m. on Sunday.
After we woke up, Sven went into town to bring his sister who is vacationing here and her friend, a dentist on the island, back to Agility. Sven brought us all back into town after awhile so Tim and I could explore. We rented ATV’s and road around the island for the rest of the day. The Moai’s are scattered throughout the island so there is a lot to see. We stopped by several sites on our way to the big 15 piece area. The Moai’s are awe-inspiring. The sculptures themselves are huge and beautiful and then there is the ocean crashing behind them. Wow. The island itself is very nice. Low traffic, few people, a couple of nice beaches, surfers, wild horses, cattle, and lovely rolling hills. I plan to explore more by bike – it may be about the most perfect place to ride a bike I’ve ever been too.
Someone is supposed to be on the boat here at all times. If the winds shift, the anchorage can become untenable and it’s necessary to move to another area. We are staying here longer than we planned to get some work done. Roni is flying out today and he, Sven, and Tim will work on our wiring and electrical issues. We are also going to wait to get a new auto pilot prior to departure. I suppose we could be here for as long as a week, but hopefully will be able to leave sooner. While the guys work, I’ll catch a dinghy ride into the island and ride my heart out. I have to say that I never imagined that I’d be riding my bike around Easter Island.
Tim and I need to get some work done this morning so I best be off.
Sounds like fun…that would be the bike riding. Hope the earth quake in Japan doesn’t impact you guys.
Quake? Is there a Tsunami warning?
WOW! Riding your bike around Easter Island!!! SO COOL! As some other amazing adventures I know say, that “does not suck”. 🙂 Hope you’re enjoying the new lifestyle!
where are pictures of the giant statues on Easter Island?
Is Snoop Dog in your pocket?
