Night 2

Jerri:
We’re having a very pleasant night. The wind died down around 5:00 p.m. requiring engine assist for several hours. We’ve been back under sail power since around 10:00 p.m. and I’ve had a very civilized watch. I know it’s a little slow for Tim’s taste (we’re making 5-6 knots), but I’m enjoying the calm seas and wind. I sat outside for a few hours with no spray and hope to make it up another 90 minutes. Tim didn’t get much sleep the first 36 hours. I didn’t get a massive amount either, but more than he did and the current sailing conditions make it easy to stay up. Yesterday we read, ate, caught a fish, and watched two movies. We’re two for two with the fish, but they’ve both been skipjacks, a type of very dark tuna that we don’t enjoy. The first we successfully released back to the sea, but skipjack #2 had some bad luck including gill damage by the lure and two big chunks bitten out of him by a larger fish while being reeled in. I would love some mahi mahi, but not too excited by the tuna and we’re still working our way through the marlin steaks. Marlin kabobs are on the menu tonight as a matter of fact. We are down to cabbage and carrots for fresh produce and running low on meat and chicken, but only a few more days before we reach Tonga.
We will try to get some diving and hiking in while in Tonga, but haven’t come up with much of a plan yet. Maybe I will do some research now.

I LOVE these posts. Jer, it’s like you never left. Tim, I thought the post to Finn and Gus was the best yet. Two lucky ducks. Hoping the girls find some rolling sea relief soon. That’s a bummer. (Oh, and best wishes, you two!) Hope you arrive soon and immediately get your fill of produce. Much love to you, and great gratitude for your way with words and attention to detail.
