Jer:
We moved yesterday in order to calibrate the two autopilots that are now both working and to see more of the island. Currently, Agility is anchored outside of Opunohu Bay near a nice are for snorkeling that has several Tikis (fun Polynesian carvings underneath the water) and a lot of bommies (big slightly isolated coral heads) to check out. Paddle boarding is very nice here, at least with the current weather situation. There were two boats anchored that we have met previously – Moonshadow from CA (Deb and John) and a catamaran that I identify by the tiny baby (6 weeks perhaps) and my new favorite dog, Vera. Shortly after we anchored, a Chris White A57 (same as our last Agility), Nogal, came along. We so enjoy the Nogal gang. Frank, Marilia, and their two daughters aged 9 and 11 are great to be around and it’s very fun to see how the kids are doing since they are similar ages to what our daughters were on our first sailing trip. Frank’s sister, her two children and boyfriend are on the boat too so we invited the whole gang over for cocktails. It was a lot of fun.
When there were so many boats that we knew in the anchorage, I had my typical initial reaction of panic. All I wanted to do was read and maybe watch a movie. This is how I feel in “normal” life too. I’m so glad I invited Nogal over and we still managed to watch a movie and I finished my book. Am realizing I can have it all! Ha. Plus we swam and got out on the SUPS earlier. A big big day. I will continue to work on being more social because we’ve met great people so far and things can or will get boring and lonely if we don’t meet friends.
Its the 4th of July – possibly my favorite holiday. I will miss the fireworks, but considering that we got fired upon in Avon, CO last year (glitch in the program) and that I provisioned with hotdogs, I think we’ll have a fine day celebrating solo in Moorea. Our fellow U.S. boats have moved on, but who knows what will happen later. I have a fond memory of celebrating the 4th on Blue Rhapsody in Greece with Tim’s brother Craig and family. I recall Zach Miller singing patriotic tunes at top volume on the back of the boat.
We’re not sure where we’ll head next. Stay tuned…
