Jer:
We are in Opua! I went to bed around 7:30 p.m. (stayed up late to keep Tim company – ha), Tim woke me up at 2:00 a.m.; we were all the way into the harbor and ready to figure out what to do in regards to anchoring or docking. There were tons of smaller boats around at anchor, none with anchor lights on so assuming no owners on board, the water was flat, no wind, and the Q dock had a nice gap between boats. Unfortunately, there weren’t normal cleats to possibly lasso a line around to secure us, but small metal rings. I was worried about that, but Tim came up with the brilliant idea that I could lay on the deck with the boat hook, hook it around the ring, and hold us on while he got off the boat and tied us off. It worked like magic and was probably one of the easiest docking experiences ever. For good or for worse because this will probably lead us to decide to dock in the middle of the night by ourselves again sometime in the future.
We are now awake, it’s 9:15 a.m., and waiting for all of the check in rigamarole. I probably should change out of my pj’s.
woohoo – glad you made it safely to wonderful NZ. They will seem like huge, easy islands compared to your past months. Enjoy!
