After a rocky night, we chose to leave Fakarava and head to Taou this morning. Tim was planning a dive, but it got cancelled due to rough weather and we had a good weather window for taking off. Our quick run to the store lasted over 2 hours, involved a decent rain storm soaking, the purchase of a hand carved wood print table runner (orange of course), and several conversations with fellow cruisers, but we returned to Agility with eggs in tow and took off before noon. Exiting the N. Pass with incoming tide was very exciting – wow – kind of scary, but cool as well.
Our 3rd and final auto pilot has given up on us so we had to hand steer to Taou. Only several hours so not that big of a deal, but it could be a long haul to get to Tahiti. Hopefully Tim can fix it. Unfortunately, it also seems like our water maker is failing, but we have enough to drink. The laundry will have to wait.
Taou is a nice little place with a bunch of mooring balls so simple to get in here and situated. The couple that lives on the island serve dinner so hope to get a reservation for tomorrow. We will need to pay close attention to the weather so we can get to Tahiti as easily and quickly as possible. We’re low on fuel making that even more important. We have to run the engine everyday to keep our batteries charged because only one of our 6 solar panels is working. It will be great to get those repaired.
Our floor has started to bubble up so hope to get that fixed as well when the Awloplast guys are out. It’s some type of laminate (everything is about saving weight on a high performance catamaran), but the glue doesn’t seem to be working.
We were able to purchase great provisions in the little town in N Fakarava so a nice dinner in process including a fresh cabbage, carrot, cucumber, and apple salad.
