Times are a changing

We’ve had the great luxury of having Sven on board these last two weeks an that’s all about to change. Tonight for the first time I took the last shift from 4:00AM until 8:00 +/-. Slept very well for about 6 hours and I’m fairly fresh considering. Tomorrow we arrive at Easter Island and we’ve made very good time over the last couple of days. We are currently 160nm from our destination so should be there sometime in the middle of Saturday night instead of Sunday mid day as previously predicted.

We can travel 200nm on a good day and we’ve essentially done that on average the last two day. We were 580nm’s away two nights ago and now 2 days and 3 hours later we’re 160nm’s away from our destination. That’s pretty amazing as it’s been in relative comfort. However next week when it’s just Jerri and I we might slow down a bit at night and take it a little easier. It will be interesting to see the new patterns and ritual when it’s just the two of us.

Also, on the time theme. What time is it. Easter Island is only 2 hours earlier than Santiago but our watches say that we’re 4 hours earlier give the automatic GPS time on our systems. There is this little Jenga slice of the ocean that is one and two hours off. Very strange and it would be kind of spooky if we sail along the boarder and the GPS clock kept switching back and forth.

Time for a break to go gaze off the back deck at my faithful companion over the last few weeks. Mars.
