We left Easter Island around midnight last night when the wind and seas calmed down a tad. It’s a relief to be moving on. The island is a wonderful place, but the anchorages very sporty and the cargo ship incident put a damper on the visit. I suggest that anyone wanting to see the island (it’s super cool, plenty to do, and good for R&R too), not do so by ship. A cruise boat came one morning and had to leave without letting people off due to rough seas. What a disappointment for those guys and I don’t think an unusual occurrence.
We are heading to Gambier and will once again do an arc to the north to avoid some weather and to make me a happier crew member. It’s overcast this morning, enough wind to sail, decent swells that seem to be settling down. I was not motivated to prepare oatmeal or coffee, but I’m not sure if that’s due to the sea or because I’m exhausted. I’m drinking instant coffee (at least I’m not eating it by spoon) and reading Bettyville by George Hodgman.
We’re off
- Maybe offline for a while
- Where’s Margaritaville?
Glad you two are having a safe trip! Do you have any photos from Easter Island?
